Original little pointers, released here.

Give each pointer its own place.

For Windows 11, these 17-role cursor packs are collections of files. You assign a file to a mouse role; downloading the ZIP alone changes nothing.

You can replace all 17 roles, or just the ones you prefer. Save your current scheme before changing anything.

01 / BEFORE THE SWITCH

Keep the files somewhere permanent.

Extract the ZIP into a folder you plan to keep, for example Pictures / My cursors / Petal. Browse to those extracted files during setup, not to the ZIP itself. Moving or deleting them later can break the saved references.

Already using a custom scheme?

In Mouse Properties, open the Pointers tab and note the selected Scheme. Use Save As to keep a named copy of a custom scheme before changing roles. You can select that saved scheme to undo the whole set.

02 / MATCH THE ROLE

The name matters more than the picture.

Open the Windows 11 settings path below. In the Customize list, choose a role, select Browse, then open its matching file. Both sets use these same filenames.

Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse → Additional mouse settings → Pointers

  • Link selectlink-select.cur
  • Text selecttext-select.cur
  • Movemove.cur

  • Help selecthelp.cur
  • Working in backgroundworking.cur
  • Busybusy.cur
  • Precision selectprecision.cur
  • Handwritinghandwriting.cur
  • Unavailableunavailable.cur
  • Vertical resizevertical.cur
  • Horizontal resizehorizontal.cur
  • Diagonal resize 1diagonal-1.cur
  • Diagonal resize 2diagonal-2.cur
  • Alternate selectalternate.cur
  • Location selectlocation.cur
  • Person selectperson.cur

Resize 1 runs from upper-left to lower-right; Resize 2 runs from lower-left to upper-right. Busy and Working in background are static drawings, not animations. Location and Person appear in newer Windows role lists; skip any role your version does not show.

Choose Apply when the assignments are ready. A hand belongs to Link Select; it does not replace the normal arrow. The centre of the I-beam places text, even though its decoration sits off to one side.

The arrow changed, but the other pointers did not.

Each role has its own assignment. Check Link Select and Text Select separately. Any role you do not assign retains its previous file. Some apps and games draw their own cursor, so a Windows change may not affect them.

03 / KEEP A WAY BACK

Restore the scheme, or just one role.

Return to the Pointers tab, select your previous Scheme and choose Apply. To restore one selected role instead, choose Use Default.

The web preview is separate: choose End preview or close the tab. It never edits your Windows settings. Touchscreens do not gain a mouse pointer from these files.

I want a bigger pointer, not a decorative one.

Windows has built-in size and colour choices under Accessibility → Mouse pointer and touch. Those may be a better fit than a small decorative set. These downloads are static 32-pixel drawings, not animated cursors.
